Flexion/Distraction Technique – Lumbar Disc Pain Relief
Flexion/Distraction therapy is performed on a specially designed, segmented chiropractic table that moves as your chiropractor slowly manipulates your spine and soft tissues. These manipulations, combined with the movements of the table, can be used to stretch and decompress your spine, relieving your back, buttock, leg and foot pain related to your condition.
As your chiropractor performs the gentle manipulations, a section of the treatment table can be moved up and down and side-to-side, changing the positioning of your body to allow for more targeted treatment of specific soft tissues and joints of he back. When your body drops slightly, gravity enhances the effects of treatment and helps mobilize your spine through a greater range-of-motion than what may be currently possible due to pain and injury.
Flexion-distraction therapy can:
- Reduce painful symptoms associated with spinal stenosis
- Reduce pressure on your spinal nerves and discs
- Decrease bulging of herniated discs
- Relieve sciatica symptoms of pain and numbness in the back, buttocks, and legs
- Improve range-of-motion and mobility
- Relieve stiffness
- Help you manage chronic back pain
- Eliminate or delay the need for surgery in some cases
- Promote good disc health
- Improve posture
