Shockwave is a safe, effective and non-invasive therapeutic modality utilized in physical medicine (chiropractic and physiotherapy) for the treatment of many common painful and physically limiting musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
Shockwave is effective for:
- Acute sprains and strains
- Myofascial pain
- Fascial restrictions
- Chronic Tendonopathies (ie. Plantar, achilles, quadriceps, lateral elbow)
During Shockwave treatment a Shockwave machine is used to deliver a targeted physical sound wave to the affected tissues. This elicits a biological response that includes improved vascularization, cell differentiation and proliferation, resulting in the formation of new tissue. This increased vascularization – oxygen and nutrient supply to the tissues of the body – directly promotes tissue healing and regeneration. Additionally, through improved vascularization of a target/injured area, Shockwave treatment can enhance circulation and mobilization of accumulated fibrous scar tissue, improving tissue mobility that may have otherwise been limited or causing pain.
