Bring on the Pain! (Relief)

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is NOT about bringing on the pain, but at least you’re reading this!

Shockwave is a safe, effective, and non-invasive therapeutic modality utilized in physical medicine for the treatment of many common musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders. Shockwave helps to heal chronic tendonopathies, specifically helping to reduce pain.

Shockwave is not new. Shockwave has been around for decades, initially in the form of lithotripsy to aid in the destruction and passing of kidney stones. As an MSK intervention, shockwave works by altering the pathophysiological processes of tissue on a cellular level. Shockwave has been shown to improve vascularization of the injured tissue being treated, thereby promoting a tissue healing and regeneration response that results in mobilization of tissues, including scar tissue to reduce pain and improve MSK function.
